It basically has the weaponry of a pdn, the hull of a bs and no fuel. It has to be transported to the system and stays in the station. and as the name implies...is used for defense. And i think that it should be achieved fairly early on rank wise.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to outfit a ship the size of a PDN? It costs alot, you need to work up to it. I personally don't understand why newer players would need more guns or why smaller ships need an advantage over larger ships.
the platform would before war like situations...and yes i know how much it costs to do that.
the smaller ships is so that there is a different aspect to the game then, my ship is bigger than yours...now die in one blast. I think it would add more creativity and excitment...and help the economy.

Currently we have an assault craft, a ship with superior firpower to its small counterparts, but no jump capability, so for station defense and offense only. Although the idea of a medium or large ship for station fighting only (i.e. no jump) is interesting, until station locks are introduced, nothing prevents this from being used for both offense and defense.

When this game first came out, Paul had mentioned 'Star Forts' as being this sort of thing (not weaponry or life wise, but a planetary defense platform). Unfortunately, it has not been developed yet after nearly a year... But the thought is still there.
