nick the ipad is hands down worse to the iphone 4 display. i logged into oe on an ipad at the apple store (browser version) and it really look horrible (i'm so used to the iphone 4 graphics now). plus the iphone 4 has twice as much memory as the ipad, which helps make the current app way more stable.
finally.like i said, these isn't much a $700 ipad does that a $200 netbook can't do.
The OE app on the iPad is still using iOS 3.2 but I enjoy it. From what I have read iOS 4 increases stability of the app if you have newer hardware such as the 3GS or 3rd Gen iPod Touch or later. The iPad's 256mb of ram isn't huge but I had few crashes running it and it is a very snappy device.
True Ducky, theres not a lot that an iPad is capable of that a netbook (other than a smoother experience) is not however I find the appstore development the main selling point for me. I am a gamer and since falling in love with the prices, innovation and on the go accessability of the appstore my XBox 360 and Wii have only gathered dust. I like saving a lot of money on software and games and have no desire to even try out the Microsoft Kinect.
It has a good mobile GPU, CPU and excellent battery life and is already delivering a lot of enjoyable games and apps with snappy performance.
I would recommend to anyone considering an iPad try it out instore especially if you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. If iOS and the appstore appeal to you then you'll probably love the iPad but if your looking for the flexibility of a laptop experience in a small package then a netbook is right for you.
